When the results for Coimbatore's Singanallur Assembly Constituency (AC 121) came in on counting day, the numbers told a clear story. K.S. Sri Giri Prasath of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had polled 84,163 votes, finishing 19,139 votes ahead of his Indian National Congress challenger V. Srinidhi. The margin was decisive in a seat that has historically swung between the major Dravidian fronts, and it sent a particular kind of legislator into the new Tamil Nadu Assembly: a working lawyer.

Sri Giri Prasath's profile within TVK was never solely electoral. He had been named State Deputy Coordinator of the party's Advocate Wing well before the campaign — a position that placed him at the centre of one of the most quietly consequential investments the new party made. While most parties treat legal cells as an afterthought, TVK built its advocate wing in parallel with its booth committees, recognising that a young party fighting incumbents would face every kind of procedural challenge: nomination scrutiny, symbol allotment disputes, election petition threats, defamation cases against social media volunteers, and the slow grind of registration and recognition under the Representation of the People Act.

The Advocate Wing's mandate is wide. It coordinates legal aid for party workers caught in politically motivated cases. It prepares and files election petitions where TVK candidates contest results. It represents the party in High Court and Election Commission matters. It runs internal training so that district legal coordinators understand the basics of model code violations, FIR procedures, and bail logistics — knowledge that, in the heat of a campaign, often decides whether a booth captain stays in the field or sits in custody. In effect, the wing functions as the party's institutional immune system.

For Singanallur, Sri Giri Prasath's professional background became a campaign asset rather than a liability. Singanallur is an urban constituency with a large salaried, service-sector electorate — IT workers, factory supervisors, traders, small entrepreneurs — voters who tend to respond to candidates who can explain laws, contracts, and grievance procedures in plain language. A lawyer-candidate fit that profile precisely. His campaign material foregrounded grievance redressal, RTI use, and legal literacy, themes that distinguished him from rivals leaning on conventional patronage messaging.

The broader lesson for TVK is structural. By the time the party fought its first full Assembly election, it had a sitting MLA from Singanallur who was also one of the architects of its statewide legal architecture. That dual role — legislator and legal organiser — is the kind of bench depth most new parties take a decade to develop. With Chief Minister Vijay's government sworn in on 10 May 2026 and Coimbatore's V. Sampathkumar now BC Welfare Minister, the Advocate Wing's relevance only grows. A party in power is a party that gets sued. TVK, unusually for a two-year-old formation, was already ready for the docket.
